160 Connecticut Street
This site afforded some very unique opportunities. It’s one of the things we love about designing ADU’s. Each building is unique, allowing us to be incredibly creative in finding solutions. Here, due to a steep slope between the front of the building and the rear yard, we were able to create an incredible loft apartment with tall ceilings, lots of natural light, and a sleeping loft tucked away from the street for privacy and quiet.

- Sometimes working with a steeply sloped site is a real advantage. Here, because of the street slope, we had a wonderful, tall volume to work with for this unit. Even though this unit fronts right onto the street, the tall ceilings, abundance of natural light, and raised sleeping loft at the rear of the unit make this space feel safe and secure.
- Designing ground floor units can be a challenge. Finding ways to make these units feel safe and secure, even while fronting onto a public street can be a real design puzzle. Here, we were lucky. The natural slope of the site, and different elevations between the front and back of the lot, opened up the opportunity for us to create a private sleeping loft, set back away from the street, and up at a higher level, making it feel even more secure.
